Honey Benefits

Honey and benefits of honey has long been a subject of research. While honey was an integral part of medicine in ancient Egypt and China, the reasons for its health benefits were only realized in recent years. There is still a lot of research on honey health benefits as there are many aspects of it that we do not fully understand. Honey contains several antimicrobial properties and helps to boost the immune system and prevent infections. Honey has a distinct flavor and so it can be used instead of sugar to sweeten a beverage. Green tea with a spoonful of honey is considered to be an excellent choice for a morning beverage and has immense nutritional value. Green tea is rich in antioxidants and combined with honey it can help to prevent several gastrointestinal disorders. In fact, honey is often used to treat diabetic ulcers. Warm water with a dash of fresh lemon juice and a spoonful of honey is an excellent tonic that can be consumed every morning. This mixture helps to simulate bowel movements, rehydrate the body, and cleanse the system. Honey can also be used as a non-fatty and healthy salad dressing. A quick-to-make, tasty, and healthy salad can be made by tossing together sliced carrots, lettuce, broccoli, and cabbage. These assorted vegetables can be kept in the refrigerator to chill while the topping is being made. A few tablespoons of honey, along with a pinch of salt and pepper, and a dash of lemon can be whisked together thoroughly to form the topping. To increase the nutritive value of this salad, freshly ground nuts can be added to it. Honey can also be used along with fruits and meats to add flavor to the dish. Lean chicken breasts steamed with chopped apples and pears and topped with honey is an extremely delicious and healthy main course dish.   

Honey is a predigested sugar and so it is easier to digest as compared to other sugars. This makes it a very good source of energy for those suffering from gastrointestinal problems. There are also several uses of honey for health conditions such as diarrhea. Honey on toast is often recommended for undernourished individuals as well as those with a weak digestive system.
