Bee Pollen
Bee pollen is the substance collected on the honey bee as it collects nectar from flowers. The pollen gets mixed with the bees’ digestive enzymes. A grain of pollen has as many as one hundred thousand to five million pollen spores. Each of these has the capacity to reproduce its entire species. The pollen is gathered at the opening of the beehive. This is done by forcing the bees to enter through a doorway that is partially blocked by a wire net. This brushes off the material from their rear legs into the container. However, nowadays since the use of this pollen has increased two fold, the material is directly collected from inside the beehives.
Bee pollen is considered to be very nutritious as it contains minerals, vitamins and has high quantities of protein and carbohydrates. Bee pollen contains amino acids which are important for good health. They are considered as the building blocks of proteins, which are essential to build cells in your body. It is also rich in vitamin B5, Vitamin B3 and Vitamin B2. Bee pollen is also considered as the powerhouse of phytochemicals which are responsible for building the body’s immunity to fight diseases and also works removes toxins. Many people believe that bee pollen can be used to enhance their energy, memory and performance as well, but there is no scientific evidence that it actually does. Bee pollen extracts and supplements are also taken to prevent hay fever. It improves intestinal functions, mainly in cases of chronic constipation or diarrhea that has shown no improvement even after antibiotic treatment
Adding Bee Pollen to your diet can be done in many simple ways. Just adding one or two teaspoon of bee pollen to your diet is equal to having a good serving of vegetables. So if you have a very busy schedule and don’t have the time to eat healthy; or have the essential fruits and vegetables, then a teaspoon of bee pollen can drastically improve your diet. If you are trying bee pollen for the first time it is recommended that you try just a few graduals at first just to ensure that you are not allergic to it. Bee pollen allergies are as common as any other food allergies and in certain sever reactions have be life threatening. People who are already allergic to bee stings should be more cautious. Pregnant women must consult their doctor using any bee pollen supplements.
